I thought I read about a year ago that the owners of Alta Mira wanted to " condoize " all their units, but the City of Sausalito wanted an enormous amount of money to do that and local residents were up in arms about parking and other issues. Real Estate Developement is having a tough time these next few years so they are turning to creative new ways to carry on with their business. The developers are paying politicians and the media to promote more government subsidized housing units for seniors and all the new immigrants the corporations need to import to bring wages and our present standard of living down. Now this rehab thing is a great scam. Did anyone notice that Alta Mira is going to charge from $36 to $48 THOUSAND a MONTH to " Git Away from Drugs " as the late James Brown used to preach. That has got to be the best money making scam I can think of, and the new operators circumvent the City permit process altogether.

Reading today's IJ about The Alta Mira Hotel in Sausalito becoming a "treatment center" next month makes me livid.

I understand needing a state license, but having the town getting zero say in them taking over eight (8) properties on three streets surrounding it is insane just like the Loch Lomond land grab.

But since we're about nostalgia, I will say I'll miss it because it was our only (correct me if I'm wrong) Bay/Water view restaurant deck in the hills and not at water's edge which made it special.
Kind of like our own mini Claremont Hotel.

PS, I just thought of Mountain Home Inn although kind of away from the bay, any others ?
