My dad only listened to classical and jazz music so this was my first introduction to ROCK since I only had an AM transistor radio. I used to roller skate around while listening to that station. Going from Hotel California to Knock on Wood and everything in between. Dr. Don was The Man.
Googuse, you should have done what I did back in 1964 when we had rotory phones, take the phone apart and remove the dial spring. Then tighten it up and replace it, it made the dial work "mo swifter", great for a kid with the time for all that fun stuff.
I dialed it SO many times on our ROTARY phone, trying to win contests or make requests that 30 years later I can still remember the frickin' phone number!
I remember Dr. Don from doing voice-over fillers between afternoon cartoons on KHBK Channel 44 in the late 70's and/or early 1980s. I was well past childhood, but I was a cartoon fan and was assembling a collection with my Betamax.
I so remember Dr. Don on KFRC.. I was probably pre-teen but had older sisters and brothers and that was what was on the radio in the old station wagon on the way to school..
