The county Poor Farm was there, I'm hazy on details, but that might have been the old building. I had the impression that juvy was in the old poor farm building but may well be wrong about that. I also heard that they stored old county records there. Another old dairy ranch, run by Tom Nunes, was opposite, near where the deli and office center is. Did you all know that the real Lucas Valley is on the Nicasio side of Big Rock, not on the subdivision side? The east side is correctly Gallinas Valley, but they named the housing tract Lucas Valley which has caused some geographical confusion.

I remember a big victorian era building out by juvenile hall that looked like an old hospital, the county had a fire station there in the 60's I think, does Dewey or anybody else remember that building?, I think it was painted that yellowish white color that many of the old military building are painted in the headlands, with a red roof.

The main ranch in Marinwood was the old James Miller ranch, a very historic place until it was all torn down in the 1950s to make way for Marinwood. A huge old mansion, barns...the Silveira family was the last to own it; they are now across the freeway. James Miller brought his family by wagon train to Marion before the Gold Rush. Another great old ranch was the Freitas dairy, now Terra Linda. Imagine those places as rolling grassy hills, creeks, old oak trees...sigh.

Yep, I remember it. It is one the site where the Lee Brothers' market was later built, near the old Dixie School. This was before the over pass was built (there used to be a stop sign at 101 instead of the over pass).

I remember a boarded up well on the property and peacocks, everywhere.

Anybody remember the farm in Marinwood? It has been condo's for a long time. I think the original owners were part of marin dairy farms? Any way it was sad to see it go. We used to cut through the farm on the way to school at Mary E. Silviera. I miss Marin or at least the way it used to be. Anyone that has any pics of that farm would be great.
