Later than the 50's or 60's, but how about Brad Muster? I believe he was a tight end with the Chicago Bears in the 80's or 90's, and a pretty good one at that. I think he went to Novato High and his father was longtime San Rafael coach Bob Muster.

Anyone with distinct memories of High School sports in the 50s and 60s? I have written about a dozen history pieces, many on local high school sports from that era for the Marin IJ, including one about the great Tam basketball teams in the late 50s through mid 60s, and the Drake High football teams of the mid 1960s. There are quite a few local athletes who were outstanding high school players from those years who still around. In early May, the Marin Old timers Association will hold it's annual dinner in San Rafael at Joes, and I believe former Tam hoop and football star Honor Jackson (he played in the NFL in the 60s) will be the guest speaker. Tam turned out some good ones, as former Niner greats Elmer Collet (still lives in Marin at Stinson Beach), Matt Hazeltine (great linebacker in the 1960s..but tragiclaly tied of ALS in the 70s), Sam Chapman (all american at Cal and a standout outfielder for the old Philadelphia A's of the American League), Conrad Hoetger (great Tam hoops star who scored the winning points in the first-ever MCAL game in 1958), and many others. Dean Lazzerini, who was a star running back at both Drake and COM in football, and later coached at Redwood also still lives in the area. Tight end Reg Carolan ( I believed he passed away seveal years ago) who later played with the champion KC Chiefs in the lat4e 60s and early 70s, was also from Drake. Of course Pete Carroll, (class of 1969) a great football player for coach Bob Troppmann, and later the head coach with the NFL Patriots and Jets, assistant for the Niners, and now the successful coach of USC, and former Miami Dolphin lineman Tom Wickert, (class of 70) are two of the top players out of Redwood. Doug Dressler, who was a terrific star at San Rafael and COM and later was a starting running back with the Cincinnati Bengals, Stacy Bailey, a top wide out for Terra Linda who later played with the Atlanta Falcons, and Novato's top qb Mike Moroski who a SF Niner backup qb during Joe Montana's era all played in Marin. So too did the "space man," lefty pitcher Bill Lee, an outstanding reliever for the Red Sox in the 70s (he went to Terra Linda), Jerry Goff from San Rafael and Chad Krueter from Redwood who also played in the Majors with the Expos and Texas, and the Dodgers, Redwood's Buddy Biancalana (cult star of the 1985 World Series title winning KC Royals), and let's not forget Jesse Foppert, former SF Giants phenom from San Rafael. I'm sure that there are many others I haven't mentioned, butperhaps the more vigilant readers out there could relay some stories about these guys or some of the other notables. I would also like to hear from those who used to go to the big friday night Football games at COM's stadium in Kentfield. I went to a couple of those games in the early 1960s, and saw the "A-boys", Paul Ackerman and Auerbach (can't recall his first name) from Redwood put on quite a show. Those games were a big deal and drew well over 5,000 fans on an average! The kids would then go to a nearby gym and dance the night away at one of those "sock hops" that were so popular in those days. Great memories!
