I live in Houston, Tx. I grew up in the Houston/Beaumont, Tx gulf coast area. Back when I was a young 20 something I decided to quit a good job and enlist in the U.S. Coast Guard. I spent a year on a coast guard cutter/ship in Galveston, Tx, then receive orders to attend cg communications school in Petaluma, Ca. During that bus trip up to Sonoma county I saw Marin for the first time. Beautiful.
To make a long story short, after my enlistment I settled into the canal area in San Rafael. I attended classes at College of Marin in Kentfield. I shared an apartment with another student named Miguel Paredes. I met a lot of people, but it has been 25 years or more. I met Walter Turnner, a black studies professor at COM, and a talk show host at pacifica radio kpfa, I believe. I met Leon Roberts, Jr, another student and african american maile. I am african american also. I knew another student named Joanie Plastino, who lived between san rafael and Novato. She probably has a differnt last name these days. I met yet another student, a young lady name Valerie Robbins.
I met a lot of other people, but I can't remember all the names. there was Emieal Hall who worked at Safeway in downtown San rafael, where I worked as well.
If anyone knows any of the names mentioned tell them to contact me. I sure would like to visit Marin county again. Great place to ride a bicycle.
