A friend and I used to do that, but frequently we'd get through the opening and any interviews, trailers and/or short films and then fall asleep once the feature had started.

"Gotham City Municipal Swing Band" by Neal Hefti, from his "Hefti in Gotham City" album - he wrote the theme for the TV show.

Years later I ran into Bob. In the late Eighties he had a small office in Orinda. I had some business in the building he was in, so one day I tapped on the door. He was in; I thanked him for all of the fun memories and shook his hand. Nice guy, and forever a part of Bay Area lore.
I can still hear the theme from the show in my mind's ear.
I too loved Creature features as a kid, don't remember captain cosmic much...weekend latenights were the only we could watch scary movies. Do remember The Inner Sanctum and Circle of Fear, the latter hosted by Sebastian Cabot.(Also played Mr. French on Family Affair w/Buffy & Jody) they came on after creature features.
If you grew up in Marin anytime from the late '60s through the '80s you surely remember Bob Wilkins of KYVU's Creature Features and Captain Cosmic fame. He died Wednesday at 76. I wrote a brief appreciation of Bob and Captain Cosmic (Creature Features was unfortunately on past my bedtime in those days) on my blog here: www.marinmommies.com/marindaddy
