That gang of hoodlums that hung out on the corner of 4th and D St., where Aquarium Beautiful was, that's my Uncle Steve. Does anyone remember a strange looking blue Corvette with ORGASMATRON painted on the side and a naked lady ? Was in a Woody Allen movie I think. That was my Uncle as well. I was too young to cruise but my dad would get all four kids and my mom in the beat up family station wagon and we'd go down and try to embarrass him.
i remember king cotton you bet. tooling the main in the mid sixties, was going from Fosters freeze on the west end down to the highway or Montecito and turning around. We would stop at the liquor store a block from the corner of Fourth and Lincoln and get some guy to buy up for us.
We pulled lots of Chinese fire drills, and moved our windshield squirts to the other lane and pulled alongs side em and got em. Also raced at Q for high stakes. hot fast cars.
Hot, huh? Thanks! I thought I was pretty cool myself (ha ha), but only because I got to cruise in that goat! Yep, I was SRPD and it's me who's retired (back surgery), not my dad. He's still a judge--went through a tough time a few years back but prevailed as we who know him knew he would. Anyway, my news these days is that my husband and I just bought a 1966 GTO! We haven't received it yet (from back east) but I can't wait!!!
Oh yeah! I started hanging out on 4th in 1977. Make the rounds from Montecito to the Marin Pizza Pub for pinball, then the Charcoal Pit for pool, then on to 4th and D. By 1 or 2 it was off to Ghillotti's for the races, brews and babes!
I have flyers from '82/'83 from the San Rafael Chevs who were trying to bring it back. I'll post them later. They're pretty cool and way rare. I haven't seen another one yet.
We cruzed 4th in the late 60's I had my Harely and I remember Debbie Fox had the best T Bird in town and not to forget Americian Graffitti was filmed there, myself and my bike was in the movie...Go Mel's Drive In
I remember my high school girlfriends and I would (perhaps as an act of desperation for some excitement) cruise along 4th Street and- at every stop light- open the doors and switch seats with each other. As the designated driver, I never had to exit the car. Instead I think I just buried my face in my hands and rested my forehead against the wheel in hopes that no nearby drivers or pedestrians would recognize me. -alikins
