Remember the little acess door in the Sundancer to the " secret room " in the attic area where we could purchase and boast the puli paca. Suposedly they moved some serious weight out of that store. I always liked the the sex books and the rice candy after I got high , back when I was in 6th grade , that was one cool store.
That's the name - we were little hippie wannabes and we'd hitchhike in from Tam Valley and shoplift earring or incense (cringe) and try to be cool. It was a big place, packed with hippie paraphenalia. We also would go to the ferry (converted into a cool store - name?) in Sausalito, feed Ole's Bakery donuts seagulls on the stern... And the Black Market was another store - on Miracle Mile? fuzzy memories... thanks for starting this site!
Not sure if there was a comic book( but there probably was. There was, for sure, a feature-length animated cartoon, though.Robert Crumb, the artist claimed to have been ripped off by the producers of that. I saw it at the Marin Motor Movies.
During my "formative" years, Sundancer Imports was truley a haven. Head shop of the first order. All things hippy and trippy. Incense, beads, essential oils (pass the patchouli, my love troll). FishBoy at Spee-Dee Mart always gave you "the look" if you were 12 years old and asking to buy Zig Zags. No problem at Sundancer! I don't recall the address, but it was on East Blithedale, maybe 2 or 3 blocks east of Throckmorton. The building(still there) was/is kind of mock tudor with exposed timbers. It had been constructed originally (I'm guessing 1920's) to house a parking garage, so there was a ramp to drive your Model A up to the second floor, still in place, although stairs had been built off to one side of it. Sundancer was on the second floor. I remember being there one day, happily reading an underground comic book(Zap#2), and the coolest music came over the stereo,It was "Suite, Judy Blue Eyes". The first time I had ever heard Crosby, Stills and Nash. Wow! I grew up in Corte Madera, so the best way to get there was through the Alto tunnel. Yes, there were still freight trains using it at the time. Which leads me to another story, but it'll have to wait. I know, How about a new thread about our train tunnels??? Anybody care to start?
