The canteen lasted at least until 1960. Tee served everything to order somehow. She usually had some student help at noon time when the crowd hit. There was ususlly a long line because she served everything from a single window. I think burgers were 25 cents. There were often fights on the side street. Usually pre aranged and well attended. Sometimes after school, a group of us would go down there and Tee would would let us inside, if we didn't look too rowdy , and feed us pie and drinks and let us play the old juke box and dance. Good times.
I asked my mother about the Canteen, as she graduated Tam in 1951. She said it had been there at least through the '40's. She described it as being a bit past the school, above the football field, with Stadium drive behind it. I don't know Tam high school, so I don't know if it is the same as your description.
According to my mom, she and her friends would go there before school to buy cokes and doughnuts. Then, at lunch and/or after school, they would hang out there and smoke.
Cokes and doughnuts....and we think OUR kids eat unhealthy.....
