no, there was also a statue of Don Quixote, now That I think about it, it was in the marshy area right before the lucky drive exit southbound, where that weird house was! it was definately a different statue, it was holding a armory shield, and if i remember correctly his suit vest of armor was made from tin can lids or something like it

Are you folks talking about a "Don Quixote" statue sure it isn't this one of Sir Francis Drake? Note the Larkspur Ferry terminal in the background of the shot on the right. (Pics linked from Patton's site.)

Well, according to Patton's web site, it is the "Trojan Horse" and it was built in 1966. The parade pic of it I posted below is from 1967. I remember it suddenly appearing out there on the Greenbrae flats, arousing wonder, admiration and curiosity, visible each day to thousands passing nearby on 101 and generally becoming an instant pop-culture icon. Great idea putting it in the parade - Patton's idea, I presume?

Buckaloo Flats. I never knew it had a name! Those are the buildings at the entrance to Larkspur Landing, right? Current owners destroyed the charm by "upgrading" the street-facing buildings.

The artist's name is Dennis Patton. The piece pictured was actually untitled. It was his first big sculpture, created in 1966. Another piece titled "Trojan Horse", kind of similar, but a bit more refined,
was installed at the civic center in '76. Unfortunatley, the '66 untitled piece was destroyed by arsonists. Probably from 'Skabo. (just kidding!)

Oh yeah, the trojan horse, or at least that's what we used to call it. You know I think I recently read an article about the guy that built it. I'll see if I can locate it and post it here.

For Larkspur's 1967 July 4 parade, they uprooted it and pulled it through town. Sorry I didn't frame the shot better 40 years ago. Now, somebody make up for my shameful lack of knowledge and/or memory about it and its fellow sculptures out on the Greenbrae mudflats.
