I look forward to trying to get out to some of the activities coming up next year that will celebrate 50 years of Redwood High School. Recently I returned to my Alma Mater to do a "guest speaker" appearance in Alex Franklin's oral rhetoric class. It was the same classroom where I had sophomore english with Mrs Markoff back in 1967, so the feeling was kind of twilight-zone-ish if you know what I mean! The kids were great, and Alex was terrific. I did a re-creation of a speech that JFK made when he was running for election back in 1960, we talked about that and about current prominent public speakers (Obama specifically). We also had the kids get up in front of the class and give brief talks about random subjects. One of the students looked vaguely familiar and turned out to be the daughter of one of my classmates (Bud Broomhead...class of 1970). Anyway, it was a time-trip walking through the halls again and looking around. The school looks a lot nicer than it did "back in the day," but the main class room building hasn't really changed a whole lot. The students were kind of surprised to hear that we had over 2600 going to Redwood back in 1969-70 as opposed to about 1600 plus today, but I reminded them that there were a lot more young people in Marin in those days because we were part of the "Baby-boomer" generation. Anyway, it was a fun experience, and educational. I look forward to seeing and talking with some of my old classmates from that long-ago era next spring!
I thouhgt I would pass this along... Looks like Redwood High School is having a 50th Anniversary Celebration April 23rd - 26th 2009. They are inviting all alumni to participate. Here's a link to their website with the details.
