Does anyone remember Poehlman's Drive-Through Drugstore?! It was on 4th either between C and D or D and E on the north side of the street. It was such a kick when I was a kid because my mom would call in an order for stuff and we would drive through in the car and Mr. Poehlman was this tall guy with white hair in a big white coat and he would have our cough syrup and medicine plus all of the goodies mom ordered ready for her and then they would chat about this and that since they had so many mutual friends. Then he would make sure she knew what medicine to give what kid and what they were for.
Did anyone else love those grilled cheese sandwiches and milk shakes at the lunch counter at Woolworths? Hey in those days, you could park your bike out front and no one would steal it. In fact, everyone knew whose bike it was so they would come in and visit with you. I kept losing my pet parakeets when I cleaned their cages outside so that is why I was always buying parakeets at Woolworth's and they only cost $1.50.
Anyone remember the toy store? Same side of the street as Woolworths and sort of across from the big courthouse. I used to buy those Breyer horses for $5.95 when I had collected enough allowance. That was one of my favorite toy stores.
